The Brainerd City Council on March 16 adopted a resolution authorizing Brainerd Public Utilities to submit applications to the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) for three 2026 galvanized/lead service‑line replacement projects.
Chairman Tad Erickson told the council Brainerd Public Utilities has a professional‑services agreement with Bolton & Menk to design and administer the projects, which include a northeast Brainerd galvanized water service replacement and work in an alley between South 6th and 7th. Erickson said the city has been awarded $2,000,675 in funding that will reimburse the city and cover a significant portion of property owners’ costs.
Councilmembers asked for clarification that the replacement work would include the segment from the curb stop to the house — the portion residents normally pay — and staff confirmed that the funded scope covers that segment. The council adopted the resolution and authorized staff to proceed with the funding application process by roll call vote.
Next steps include final design by Bolton & Menk, application submittal and, if funding is finalized, coordination with property owners on replacement schedules and reimbursement processes.
