The Berkshire Local School Board approved a package of routine district business on Monday, including donations, personnel appointments, contract approvals and student travel, and set the BadgerCare before/after-school hourly rate at $5.50 for the coming school year.
The board accepted donations to support after-prom activities and elementary principal funds from a range of local donors. "We get plenty of applicants in order to make the best choice," the chair said during discussion of community support and personnel recruitment.
During the superintendent’s report the board considered and approved a list of certified, classified and administrative personnel. The superintendent introduced Matthew Hosler as the district’s incoming treasurer candidate; Hosler thanked the board and said he was “very grateful to be given this opportunity.” One board member, Townsend, said he needed to abstain on the personnel vote.
The board also approved a set of financial amendments and a package of contracts, including a request for an additional district phone line the superintendent described as "another phone line we need for the district" for the technology director.
The board approved student overnight trips including a wrestling tournament that qualified after the March meeting and an eighth-grade Washington, D.C., trip scheduled for May 6–8. Facilities business included approving a sewer easement with Kent State, Geauga, to formalize a previously unrecorded easement for a sewer line located on university property.
Votes were taken by roll call on motions through the meeting; motions listed on the agenda were approved as recorded by the board clerk.
The board also set the hourly rate for the BadgerCare program at $5.50 per hour and approved adjournment at the meeting’s close.
Planned next steps: the personnel items will be filed per district procedure, the treasurer contract will be finalized pending the posted approvals, and routine contract and trip paperwork will be processed by district staff.
