Lincoln County pledges $10,000 over five years to joint events board; Judge to appoint organizing committee

At a Jan. 30 special meeting the Lincoln County Court agreed to pledge $10,000 over the next five years to support a proposed joint events board that would merge some duties with the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. Judge Adams said he and Mayor Dalton Miller had discussed forming a board to oversee county and city events and that the City of Stanford and First Southern each pledged $10,000 for five years to get the venture started.

Judge Adams asked the court to match the $10,000 pledge; Magistrate Bobby King moved the county pledge and Magistrate Dan Gutenson seconded. The court approved the pledge, with all members present voting in favor. Court discussion focused on board construct, points to include in bylaws, funding expectations and whether neighboring cities (Crab Orchard and Hustonville) should be invited to join at a reduced pledge level.

Andrea Miller, present at the meeting, announced she will retire from the Chamber of Commerce. County Attorney Day, the mayor and several citizens participated in a lengthy discussion about organizational structure; Magistrate Stanley moved to permit Judge Adams to work toward and appoint three people to organize the board, a motion the court approved.

Meeting participants said the pledged funds would help county tourism and events; the transcript did not specify how the county’s $10,000 pledge will be allocated each year nor whether the county pledge will be paid from general fund or a specific line item.
