Fiscal Court OKs truck purchase, accepts road-equipment donation and approves used-engine buy in 4–1 vote

The Rockcastle County Fiscal Court on Jan. 14 approved several road department items, including purchase of a 2015 Chevy 3500 gas utility truck for $18,000 and acceptance of donated equipment from Larry Elkins.
Squire McGuire moved and Squire Thacker seconded approval of the truck purchase; the motion passed with all voting aye. The court accepted a stainless-steel salt spreader and snow plows donated by Larry Elkins on the condition the court provide a donation letter to the donor.
A separate motion to purchase a used engine with approximately 90,000 miles — intended to restore a currently out-of-service pickup — passed by a 4–1 vote. The motion was made by Squire McGuire and seconded by Squire Thacker; Squire Adams voted nay. Judge Holbrook noted the county operates eight trucks and that adding another functioning vehicle would help prepare for upcoming winter weather.
The court also approved rehiring Road Department employee Jeff Hansel and appointed Mark Blanton as Road Supervisor by unanimous votes.
