Residents urge Denton ISD voters to back Proposition A at board meeting

Rebecca Bertone, introduced by the board as the first speaker, described district fiscal pressures including a projected deficit, cuts that eliminated elective orchestra for fifth grade, and a reduced emergency fund she said now holds about one and a half months of expenses. She said the district saved $274,000,000 through bond refinancing but remains short and recommended a vote for Proposition A to stabilize school funding. Bertone listed three Prop A information sessions scheduled at Denton High School (Oct. 7, 6:30–7:30 p.m.), Boswell High School (Oct. 7, 6:30–7:30 p.m.) and Geyer High School (Oct. 15, 6:30–7:30 p.m.), and noted early voting and the Nov. 4 election date.
Megan Boyden, the second public commenter, said passing Proposition A would allow the district to lower student–teacher ratios, restore programs students have lost and fully fund school resource officers. “We should not have to choose between education and safety,” she said, adding that smaller class sizes are the “number-one factor” in student success.
The board did not take action during public comment; the meeting proceeded to workshop items that included bond and construction updates and an efficiency audit overview.
What’s next: Denton ISD is holding community information sessions on Proposition A; the election is scheduled for Nov. 4, 2025.
