Robert Pierce, the district’s chief technology officer, led a multi‑speaker presentation that traced a fictional student named "Olivia" through registration (PowerSchool), assessment and instructional tools. Christina Herrera (business intelligence architect) described an in‑house, AI‑powered "ECR sidekick" that generates rubric‑aligned, student‑friendly feedback for extended constructed responses so teachers can provide faster formative feedback. "The ECR sidekick…is used to generate rubric aligned student friendly feedback," Herrera said, describing the tool as a teacher support rather than a replacement.
Presenters outlined a district software‑approval process designed to vet compatibility, web‑filtering and federal/state privacy requirements. Chris Johnson (senior architect, systems infrastructure) said the district maintains nearly 200 vendor data‑privacy agreements and has vetted over 1,000 pieces of software through the approval workflow.
During the presentation staff said early PowerSchool work has reduced registrar overtime and manual time; the superintendent noted an estimate of about $100,000 in early savings from automation. Staff also described usage figures for instructional platforms: the district reported more than 1.5 million math questions answered in IXL last year and over 25,000 student hours by ninth graders in IXL.
