PVTech seeks student interest inventory as district shifts staff by attrition
Summary
Staff reported several attrition‑driven reassignments across schools and recommended a student interest inventory for PVTech to guide potential CTE pathways (ROTC/military science, web development, small‑engine repair, aircraft mechanics and a combined electrical/plumbing/HVAC sequence). Board members asked for parent outreach and counselor scheduling to protect pathway completion.

District staffing and program leads told the board the district has managed multiple reductions through attrition and reassignments. Brenda Miner reported six elementary position changes and five middle‑school reductions; most affected teachers were reassigned within the district. She said applicant pools are robust for current openings (examples: Highland social‑studies — 29 applicants; Highland English — 24 applicants).
Sue Pettit outlined PVTech’s first full year of operation and asked permission to run a student interest inventory to align possible pathways with student demand and regional workforce needs. Proposed pathways included web design, rehab services, military science (ROTC pathway recently recognized by CTE), power sports (small‑engine repair), aircraft mechanics, and a combined trimester sequence for electrical/plumbing/HVAC followed by apprenticeships.
Board members emphasized clear parent communication (use of Infinite Campus notifications, QR links and a district webpage) and counselor engagement so students who enroll in a PVTech pathway can complete capstone requirements without schedule conflicts. A trustee requested that administration circulate the recap email from principals discussed during staff meetings; administration agreed to do so.
The board acknowledged the need to let PVTech grow for another year before proposing major changes, and encouraged staff to return any inventory plan for review before deployment.
