Jeremy Grenard, city engineer, told the board the majority of the work will take approximately five to six months and that the contract allows final completion by June. He said the city has coordinated the schedule with recurring events including Stars and Stripes, Beers Across the Wabash and Riverfest and plans to advertise in April and open bids on May 12.
The chair moved to approve the notice to bidders and Jeremy Deal seconded; the motion passed by voice vote with no objections recorded. Grenard noted the project is a joint responsibility with West Lafayette and said costs will be split roughly 50/50 between the two cities.
Work described by Grenard focuses on structural spot repairs, repainting the underside of the bridge, and replacing damaged deck paver units and bridge joints. He said trail users can continue to use the bridge during construction but the venue will not be available for planned events while work is underway.
The board’s approval authorizes staff to publish the notice to bidders and proceed to the bid opening scheduled for May 12. Further scheduling and contract award details will be set after the bid opening.
