Denton ISD trustees approve consent agenda, calendar and policy updates; decline to adopt separate prayer-resolution

The Denton ISD Board of Trustees approved several routine items and a major policy update in unanimous voice votes Wednesday night, and declined to adopt a separate resolution concerning student prayer during school hours.

Trustees moved and seconded the consent agenda, which passed unanimously by raised hands. The board similarly approved the proposed 02/2027 district calendar and adopted the TASB policy update 01/26 with revisions to FDA local by unanimous voice vote.

On a separate motion, Trustee Hayes moved that the board decline to adopt a resolution under Texas Education Code Section 25.0823; the motion noted that existing state and federal law and board policy already protect students’ rights to voluntary prayer, reading of religious texts and organization of religious groups, and that creating a new resolution would impose additional procedural requirements. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
