Dr. Thibodeaux summarized adjustments affecting high school graduation and course offerings, including continuation of the district’s three-year social-studies sequence (world geography, world history, U.S. history) while noting the state’s change to require personal financial literacy in place of economics for the fourth year. "The state has removed economics as a requirement for graduation. They have replaced it with personal financial literacy," Thibodeaux said, adding the district awaits state guidance on what counts as an advanced replacement course.
The guide also adds three theater-arts classes that satisfy speech-proficiency standards, clarifies absence-failure recovery on campuses to reduce summer remediation costs, and institutes an assessment requirement (SAT, ACT, TSIA2 or equivalent) for some early-graduation requests to protect students’ CCMR (College, Career and Military Readiness) standing.
District leaders said dual-credit partnerships will emphasize Texas Woman’s University and North Central Texas College, and that UNT is not listed as a dual-credit partner in the packet; staff described preliminary discussions with UNT about future options but said no agreement was in place. The district plans course-code and CTE name updates, added a pre-IB English 2 section at Denton High School, and will sunset AP European history due to low enrollment.
