Division Road side-path plan approved for first phase; full two-sided path unaffordable now

Summary
Engineers proposed an eight-foot west-side sidepath along Division Road between Mequon and Jefferson Creek to be built this year; a second phase to County Line Road is slated for planning in 2026 and construction in 2027. Officials said a two-sided pathway would be roughly a $2 million project and is not currently feasible.
The Germantown Parks & Recreation Commission heard an update on the Division Road trail project and a village consultant’s plan calling for an eight-foot sidepath on the west side of Division Road in the initial phase.
Parks and Recreation Director (speaker 4) said engineers held public sessions last fall to collect input on trail designs and that the public favored sidepaths on both sides of Division Road, but the village lacks the funds to build two-sided 8-foot paths. "You figure for a mile of sidepath is $1,000,000 approximately," the director said, and he described a likely $2,000,000 scale for a two-sided project.
Planned timeline: the director said an eight-foot path will be installed on the west side between Mequon and Jefferson Creek before winter of 2026; the second phase (Jefferson Creek to County Line) will enter the planning process in 2026 with construction targeted for 2027. He added the west-side alignment avoids some costly crossings, while the existing east-side trail will remain in place.
Public input and constraints: commissioners asked whether the path would cross the road and about easements; the director said the plan keep the new eight-foot trail on the west side and that some crossings will be required at logical points. He also noted the project depends on engineering, easements from developers (a church-related commitment to add a sidepath was referenced), and available capital funding.
What’s next: the village will proceed with the initial west-side construction and start planning for the second phase in 2026; further updates will appear as engineering plans and funding become available.
