Cano told trustees the district relied on Texas Government Code sections 551.071 and 551.082 to keep the hearing closed, but she argued those provisions apply when personally identifiable student or employee information is discussed. She said her grievance challenges district policies and legal compliance — matters of public concern — and that "transparency is not optional. It's state law."

Later in the meeting, following closed session, the board moved (Miss Wright, seconded by Dr. Dunworth) to dismiss the grievance as untimely filed under Denton ISD board policy F and G (local) and Texas Education Code chapter 26A and to uphold the Level 2 findings; the motion passed unanimously.
