The Columbia County Board of Commissioners voted March 11 to adopt ordinance number 2026-2, revising the county's Public Land Corner Preservation Fund ordinance to separate fee authorization from the order that sets fee amounts.
During a second reading by title, Mr. Spector told the board the change "will allow future fees to be updated by separate order going forward" and that the ordinance repeals ordinance number 2006-10 and adopts 2026-2 in its place. He explained the revision follows statewide statutory change and the board's February 18 hearing and first reading of the ordinance.
Commissioners voted aloud to approve the ordinance during the meeting's second-reading sequence. Mr. Spector noted the ordinance "becomes effective on the ninetieth day after today," and staff expect the forthcoming order that sets fee amounts to keep current fees effective through June with new fees taking effect July 1 to ease the administrative transition.
The ordinance, described in the meeting as the Columbia County Public Land Corner Preservation Fund Ordinance, is intended to preserve survey monumentation and update the county's fee-setting mechanics so the board can change fees by order rather than by ordinance.
The board did not record an extended debate on the item; after the presentation and a short opportunity for questions, the board proceeded to an approval vote. The board indicated staff will bring a separate order later specifying the fee schedule and timing.
