Board approves opening recruitment for custodian, directs license language for emergency hangar storage

On an unrelated operational item, Emergency Management Director Corey Padron requested approval of a license agreement with the Port of Columbia County to store and perform light maintenance on preparedness trailers inside hangar space, at about $5,000 annually. Padron said the trailers contain roughly $1,000,000 worth of equipment (generators, HVAC, comms) and need dry, secure space for organized inventory and maintenance. County counsel and the county’s contract reviewer recommended adding explicit license language to permit limited repairs and maintenance activities now described in discussion; staff said the license term under review runs Jan. 26 to Jan. 27 and the item will return to the consent agenda after the wording is clarified.
What happens next: The board directed staff to post the custodian recruitment and to bring the hangar license back on the consent agenda with amended language that clarifies permitted maintenance activities.
