River Heights Planning Commission approved William Jensen's conditional use permit for a car-detailing business at 708 E 600 S with conditions on noise, chemical containment and an automatic termination if the business closes.
The River Heights Planning Commission on March 24 approved a conditional use permit for a car-detailing business at 708 E 600 S, allowing William Jensen to operate "Royal Detailing" from a wash bay on adjacent property with conditions aimed at limiting neighborhood impacts.
Jensen told the commission he typically details one to two vehicles a day, Monday through Friday, and that he runs both interior and exterior cleaning operations from a bay located on Bill Carson's property. "I store chemicals in a cage that holds a large drum toward the back of the bay," Jensen said, and he said wastewater from the bay runs into a drain pit that flows to the sewer system. He said there may be one car waiting outside the shop at times but not more than one.
Commissioners pressed on potential noise and chemical containment. "I suggest not doing anything noisy after 10:00 p.m. per the city code," Commissioner Anna Lisa Davidson said during the discussion. Commissioner Noel Cooley asked about storage; Jensen reiterated the caged storage and containment measures.
By motion, Commissioner Anna Lisa Davidson moved to approve the permit with three conditions: minimal noise, chemicals must be contained, and the conditional use permit would terminate when the business closes. Commissioner Troy Wakefield seconded the motion, which carried with Commissioners Cooley, Davidson, Keenan Ryan and Wakefield voting in favor; no one opposed.
The permit grants Jensen permission to operate under the conditions recorded by the commission; no additional administrative approvals or building permits the applicant may need were discussed at the meeting.
