District Clerk Wendy Holmdahl told the Rawlins County commissioners there is "a little bit of bad news about the budget," noting that the county's court-appointed attorneys line was budgeted at $12,000 but had $9,300 expended as of the meeting, in part to catch up fees carried from 2025. Holmdahl said the child-in-need-of-care (CINC) case budget is also nearly exhausted and urged getting invoices earlier to improve monitoring of those lines.
Commissioners discussed the timing of invoices and how to manage the remaining fiscal-year funds. No formal budget transfer or supplemental appropriation was recorded at this meeting; the discussion framed a near-term risk to court-related services if additional funds are not found or reimbursements occur.
Holmdahl was introduced to the board as District Clerk of the Court. The county attorney indicated follow-up meetings with the appraiser and other officials on unrelated items; the clerk will continue to provide updates to the commission about court expense lines.
