Selectmen accept Circle of Peace sculpture and other gifts for town collection

The Board of Selectmen voted to accept multiple gifts for the town’s collection, including a Gary Lee Price sculpture titled Circle of Peace (estimated value $50,000), six photographs from a Westport Book Sales Venture estate donation, and two watercolors identified in the fire station inventory.
Kathy Benowitz, town curator and a member of the Westport Arts Advisory Committee, described the donations and said the library and Park & Rec have been consulted about siting the Gary Lee Price piece. Benowitz said the donor wished the sculpture to return to Westport and that work to place it could be coordinated with upcoming stairwell repairs at the library. "Once these approvals are done, we'll start an 08/24 process… and we've talked with park and rec," Benowitz said.
Board members praised the additions, made a motion to accept the pieces and associated paperwork, and the board approved the gift acceptances.
