Board approves Minuteman race, Memorial Day parade and Road Runner series on town and state roadways

The Board of Selectmen approved traffic-authority requests March 11 to allow three recurring events that use a mix of town and state roadways.
Max Robbins, program manager for Westport Parks & Recreation, described the Minuteman race (scheduled for April 26), the Memorial Day parade (May 25) and a weekly Road Runner series running June 27–Sept. 5 with specific race dates on Aug. 1, Aug. 8 and Sept. 5. Robbins said these events ‘‘are staples in the community’’ and bring residents together.
The board confirmed police coordination and voted to approve the events by voice vote. Robbins and town staff will continue to coordinate with the police department and, where needed, the Connecticut Traffic Authority for state-road segments.
No public opposition was raised at the meeting.
