Montgomery County board appoints Dr. Kelly Gimple as division superintendent

The Montgomery County Public Schools board voted 7–0 to appoint Dr. Kelly Gimple as division superintendent, approving a resolution and authorizing the chair and clerk to sign an employment agreement that runs Feb. 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029.
Chair Purcell moved the resolution, and the board approved it by roll call. After the vote, the board recessed briefly to allow the contract to be signed.
The appointment followed a formal resolution read to the board that named Dr. Gimple and described the term and authorization for the chair and clerk to execute the employment agreement. Chair Purcell told the assembled members and the public that the board was "absolutely thrilled to introduce you all to Dr. Kelly Gimple," citing his 31 years of experience, including service as chief of schools in Spotsylvania County and two stints as interim superintendent.
Dr. Gimple addressed the board after the vote. "The plan is to listen. The plan is to learn as much as I possibly can, meet with as many people as I possibly can, and just be a sponge," he said, adding that his priorities are creating schools where students want to be, valuing and supporting teachers, and engaging parents in understanding district decisions.
The motion carried with a unanimous vote reported as seven in favor. The board did not take further action on related personnel items during the meeting.
