Board hears curricular requests: JSTOR subscription, construction resources and K–5 ELA adoption discussed

The high school asked to add an annual JSTOR subscription for upper-level English courses and a classroom set of construction curriculum resources to align with state standards and pathways.
Speaker 2 said the JSTOR subscription is an annual research tool and that the construction request responds to pathway expectations; staff noted some overlap between high-school and C9 construction work but said C9’s current capacity limits could mean only five students will be accommodated in that track while others are waitlisted (staff cited roughly 11 students on the wait list for construction).
On elementary ELA adoption, staff recommended CKLA for K–4 and Open Court for grade 5 to align with the Indiana Department of Education high-quality resource list and the science of reading. The presenters emphasized retaining earlier decoding work (Orton-Gillingham training) while adding resources to strengthen language comprehension.
Board members asked about survey response counts for calendar changes and whether additional supports or slots are needed for C9 tracks; staff said they are reviewing enrollments and may add support to accommodate demand. The curricular requests were presented for vetting and will return to the board in future meetings for formal action.
