The council recorded the retirement and resignation of Jeff Salzman from the Sheboygan Fire Department and discussed proposed changes to the standard fire department radio template; Chairman Brian Umble said programming for the fire departments will begin this month, and no formal action was taken on the template. Committee member Steve Steinhardt moved to approve the minutes of the Jan. 21, 2026 meeting; Jason Liermann, recording secretary, seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
During the correspondence portion of the agenda, the council addressed a Wisconsin Department of Justice/Division of Criminal Investigation request that had been raised in January. Committee member Steve Steinhardt moved and Matt Greenwood seconded a motion to table the DOJ/DCI request until the July meeting; the motion carried unanimously.
Under updates, Matt Greenwood provided a city IT update. Todd Stange reported leadership turnover affecting MABAS after Steve Dickman stepped down as Greenbush Fire chief, and noted uncertainty about how that will affect local MABAS operations. Chairman Umble provided updates on the ANR tower site and the radio system upgrade timeline.
Steve Steinhardt said there are no changes to primary emergency operations center communications and that he plans to meet with Plymouth’s new fire chief about a secondary EOC. He also advised that a scheduled tornado drill for Thursday was canceled. The council received inter-county reports: Umble said Manitowoc County went live with its new system and the council is awaiting a radio from Washington County; Jason Ebert reported that 8TAC channels worked during testing, and Todd Stange said the patch with Waubeka performed well.
There were no public comments. The council rescheduled its next meeting from July 15 to July 8, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned after a unanimous motion by Steve Steinhardt, seconded by Matt Greenwood, at 5:34 p.m.
