Board approves downtown mural policy and grants Art League easement for public mural at Glenview Road

The Glenview Board approved a downtown mural program and unanimously approved an installation and easement agreement with the Glenview Art League for a mural at 1746 Glenview Road.

Director Grady framed the program as a means to activate blank walls downtown and support revitalization. The proposed program sets criteria (promote local history, culture, natural environment, family‑friendly designs), requires an application and installation/easement agreements, and budgets funding in the village’s economic development line. Staff identified candidate walls and suggested design categories (postcard, historical and interactive/"Instagrammable") and said the village would manage maintenance for murals installed under this program.

Trustees asked staff to solicit input from stakeholders (chamber, Friends of Downtown, Glenview Art League and other community arts representatives) and suggested a phased approach that prioritizes locations that are already developed. The board approved the program with guidance to include stakeholder review, and then approved the Glenview Art League installation/easement for the mural at 1746 Glenview Road (concept depicts North Branch watershed wildlife, community scenes and mosaic tiles created in public workshops). The Art League described scheduled community mosaic workshops and a grant‑driven timeline calling for installation between May and July and a public unveiling before August to meet grant requirements.

Next steps: staff will finalize easement and installation documentation and oversee grant disbursement and community engagement sessions.
