Cameron County approves three Act 13 grants, including $28,000 allocation for Lumber Township

The Cameron County Board of Commissioners approved three Act 13 funding requests during its regular meeting. The board authorized an allocation of up to $28,000 for Lumber Township to replace a motor on a road maintenance truck, approved a $10,000 contribution toward Fortis Township’s $50,000 tractor and side-arm mower purchase, and agreed to a $4,500 award to support branding and marketing for the Wild Elk gravel mapping project.
The Chair said the county has $255,715.16 available in this year’s Act 13 allocation and that only $2,904.08 has been requested so far, noting that remaining funds can be used for local infrastructure needs. The board approved the Lumber Township allocation with a condition that the township submit the final invoice before payment; the motion was made and seconded and passed by voice vote.
Commissioners described the Fortis request as a modest, 20 percent local share of the tractor purchase. Committee member said the board “likes that approach,” and the motion to award $10,000 carried by voice vote.
The Wild Elk mapping request, brought forward by local project lead David Landis, seeks $4,500 to finalize a branding strategy and logo so the project can be promoted at the Philadelphia bike expo in March. Commissioners said the work builds on prior mapping funded with GRAMA and ARPA match dollars and approved the request.
The board discussed the difference between legacy and current Act 13 funds during the meeting and noted constraints on legacy dollars but affirmed the approved allocations fit within infrastructure and recreation categories in the program. The actions were recorded as approved; disbursement to Lumber Township will be processed after receipt of the final cost documentation.
