The City of Northfield Common Council unanimously approved three promotions in the police department at its Feb. 10, 2026, regular meeting.
Councilman Notaro moved and Councilman Dewees seconded the three separate resolutions that advanced department leadership: Resolution 69‑2026 promoted Michael Buccafurni to captain; Resolution 70‑2026 promoted Gaetano DiMarco to lieutenant; and Resolution 71‑2026 promoted Michael Bach to sergeant. Each motion passed on a recorded roll call with all members voting yes.
The council changed the usual agenda order to vote on the personnel resolutions at the top of the meeting. Chief Pollak departed the meeting at 7:39 p.m. as previously planned and did not return before other business proceeded.
The promotions were processed by motion on the record; the clerk recorded the roll‑call votes of Councilmembers Carfagno, Dewees, Kern, Notaro, Polistina, Smith and Council President Bucci as affirmative for each resolution. No public comment was offered on the promotions.
The council’s action places the three officers in their new ranks pending whatever administrative processing the department requires. The meeting then continued with routine business, including the approval of minutes and a mayoral report.
