Scott Pollak was sworn in as the 14th police chief of Northfield during the City’s Feb. 10 work session. Mayor Chau administered the oath in a brief ceremony attended by current and retired law-enforcement officials and members of the City Council.
“Each day we show up to serve, we will strive to be better than we were the day before,” Chief Scott Pollak said in his acceptance remarks, which followed a proclamation honoring retired Chief Mark VonColln’s 27 years of service. Pollak thanked VonColln for mentorship and pledged continuity of administration initiatives the department launched under his predecessor.
In his remarks Pollak emphasized listening, training and empowerment for officers. “We will be accountable to the people we swore upon an oath to serve,” he said, adding that he intends to expand community engagement and draw on department strengths to improve services.
Mayor Chau and Council President Bucci joined other dignitaries in presenting a proclamation recognizing VonColln’s leadership, citing modernization of policies, increased traffic enforcement, investments in technology and expanded community-policing programs. VonColln, who retired at the end of January, told the assembled officers the accomplishments were a team effort.
The council recessed briefly after the ceremony and resumed regular work-session business. No formal vote related to the appointment was recorded in the transcript; the oath was a ceremonial installation following the council’s earlier selection process.
