Northfield council approves ordinance to create 2026 budget "cap bank"

The City of Northfield council adopted Ordinance 2‑2026 at its Feb. 24 meeting, permitting the municipality to exceed the municipal budget appropriation limits and establish a cap bank under N.J.S.A. 40A:4‑45.14.
The Municipal Clerk read the ordinance by title for the second reading and opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke and the hearing was closed. Council then voted on final passage by roll call; the motion carried.
Clerk Mary Canesi announced that, if approved, the ordinance will be published as required in the Press of Atlantic City. The ordinance was introduced in accordance with local notice procedures and was posted in the lobby of City Hall and on the municipal website before the hearing.
