Summary
At its April 14 meeting the Exeter School Board elected Heather Eichmeier as board chair and Tim Reed as vice chair, approved a package of six policy revisions, accepted a staff resignation, and voted to deny suspension of student entry policy JEB after a nonpublic session.
The Exeter School Board reorganized leadership and approved multiple administrative items during its April 14 meeting.
Board member S5 nominated Heather Eichmeier as board chair; the nomination was seconded and the board voted to appoint her. Heather Eichmeier then presided and led the meeting. The board also nominated Tim Reed for vice chair and approved that appointment.
The board moved to approve both public and nonpublic meeting minutes; the minutes motion was reported as "3 approved, 2 abstentions." The superintendent asked for and the board accepted the resignation of Sarah Lamirand, a BCBA at Main Street School, with regret.
On policy matters the policy committee presented several revisions clarifying board member responsibilities, resignation timing and disqualification, minutes practices in light of the Right-to-Know law, board officer roles, and facility-use delegation to the superintendent. The board approved six policies (BBAA, BBBC, BCA, BDB, BEDG, KF) after discussion and a motion to adopt the proposed language.
The board also discussed the 2026-27 school calendar and identified formatting and typographical errors in the 'important dates' section. A motion to approve the calendar was made but later rescinded so staff can correct the errors and return an updated calendar for a May vote.
Per chapter 91-A, the board entered a nonpublic session by roll call and returned after the executive discussion. After returning, a motion to deny suspension of policy JEB (student entry) was made and passed with one recorded opposed vote.
During the meeting principals and central office staff gave standard reports: Main Street and Lincoln Street principals described instructional highlights, enrichment activities and upcoming assessments; the business manager summarized month-end finances and noted encumbrances and expected transfers. Principal McCluskey offered a remembrance of longtime staff member Miss Jessie Sher and said the school plans to honor her with a campus memorial this spring.
Next steps: corrected calendar to be returned for board vote in May; policy committee will continue work on referred policies and the superintendent and central office will convene the School Meals Advisory Committee to report back as requested by the board.
