Summary
Staff reported Q1 activity including a $22 million expansion by Tetra Pak, Arvato leasing a 270,000-square-foot facility, 25 active recruitment projects and 10 new leads; staff also highlighted Zipline partnership support and upcoming job fair with 46 employers.
EDP staff presented quarterly activity and recruitment highlights to the board, citing several local business developments and outreach efforts intended to support job creation and recruitment.
Staff said Tetra Pak broke ground on a $22 million expansion at its Denton site to increase product development capacity. Staff also reported that Germany-based Arvato has leased a 270,000-square-foot facility in Denton and that media coverage (including BizNow) has generated leads for the city’s recruitment pipeline. Staff listed 25 active projects in the queue, 10 new leads in the quarter, two city incentive applications and five recruitment visits.
The office noted support activities with partners including a mobility summit, Federal Reserve engagement and assistance provided to Zipline for a launch event at a local Walmart. Staff previewed a Denton job fair with 46 employers and said organizers expect available positions numbering about 1,600; the job fair will include mini master classes presented by UNT and NCTC career coaches.
RFI activity reported to the board included submissions that staff said represented large theoretical capital-investment opportunities and job potential; staff characterized those figures as pipeline estimates rather than committed investments. The board acknowledged the recruitment activity and discussed future outreach and potential sponsorships for events.
Staff also noted personnel changes: a going-away celebration for City Manager Sarah Hensley and appointment of interim city manager Cassie Ogden, plus an upcoming retirement of Christina Davis in May after nearly 20 years of service.
What’s next: staff will continue recruitment outreach and present a draft strategic report to the board expected in May–June.
