Des Moines County supervisors on March 17 approved routine financial and personnel business and announced a countywide rural cleanup program.
The board approved accounts payable claims totaling $671,335.95 (checks of $580,515.21 and wire/transfer payments of $90,820.74) after a motion, second and voice/roll-call approval. Payroll reimbursement claims of $461.91 were also approved.
The board approved personnel items including the hiring of Marissa Mackey as a conservation naturalist intern at $15 per hour (effective March 30), a step increase for Marcus Nack, Environmental Education Manager (from $60,503.79 to $62,375.04 effective March 19), and the completion of employment for correctional officer Peyton Krogmeyer (effective March 10). The board also approved minutes for the March 10, 2026 regular meeting.
Rural cleanup announcement
Supervisors announced and approved the Des Moines County–sponsored countywide rural cleanup to run Monday, April 6 through Saturday, June 6, or until county credits are depleted. The recycling center will accept refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, air conditioners and stoves; accepted items also include metal fencing, bed springs, mattresses and household items not suitable for donation. Proof of residence is required to participate.
Roll-call and votes
Board minutes show motions were moved, seconded and approved during the meeting; the transcript records the board moving and approving the listed items but does not provide a detailed signed roll-call tally for each item in the public transcript. Where specific votes were read aloud, the board signaled approval and the chair declared motions approved.
What’s next: administrative follow-up
Staff will process payroll and claims per normal procedure and the county will publish details and requirements for the rural cleanup, including accepted items, required proof of residency and recycling-center instructions.
