He described the intent as a relatively modest cleanup and repair: “We’re gonna use the same brick,” he said, noting that most affected storefronts would be replaced and painted to create a consistent, refreshed appearance.
During discussion one commissioner warned against removing masonry in favor of EIFS in visible locations; the applicant said changes were driven by the desire to provide equal sign bands for multiple tenants. The commission amended its motion to include cleaning or painting the trash corral, then voted to approve the certificate of appropriateness. One commissioner recorded a nay vote; the motion otherwise passed by roll call.
The approval instructs the applicant to include the trash-corral work in the permit set and to coordinate finishes to maintain a cohesive appearance across the complex.
