Lamar County Board approves consent agenda, authorizes bus purchases, sells modular units and authorizes ERATE bids

The Lamar County Board of Education approved a comprehensive consent agenda and several operational items during its Nov. 11 meeting at Purvis Middle School.
By unanimous vote the board approved the consent agenda, which bundled personnel recommendations (certified and non‑certified hires, resignations and transfers), multiple purchase contracts and out‑of‑state trip requests. Notable purchases included renewal of Fortigate firewall protection ($11,021.85), ZSpace software for LCCTE ($7,000), and authorization to purchase two 2026 77‑passenger buses at a combined cost of $292,400 under a state contract. The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Shae Farmer and seconded by Lance LeFan.
Separately, the board voted to sell four retired modular units to the Lamar County Board of Supervisors and to advertise for bids on ERATE projects to replace network switches and cabling; both actions passed unanimously on motions by Lance LeFan with seconds by Shae Farmer. The board also voted to charge the fixed asset custodian for a lost/stolen Chromebook (asset #251426).
The consent agenda recorded dozens of itemized purchases and field‑trip approvals across multiple schools (transportation and lodging for music, dance and competition travel, museum entries, charter‑bus contracts), as well as donations to athletic and academic programs and fixed‑asset disposals. Several out‑of‑state trips were approved, including student travel to Orlando, New Orleans, Mobile, and Nashville for curricular and co‑curricular activities.
The minutes show the district will proceed with the authorized procurements and contract solicitations, and the board set its next regular meeting for Dec. 9, 2025 at the Pioneer Building.
