Farmington board backs Teamworks to refresh district strategic plan

Summary
The Farmington Public School District board gave consensus to move forward with consultant Teamworks to refresh the district strategic roadmap, emphasizing implementation supports, measurement tools and a draft for board review by August.
The Farmington Public School District board on Thursday signaled consensus to engage Teamworks to lead a strategic-plan refresh that the superintendent and a public engagement committee said will pair a renewed roadmap with practical tools for implementation.
Hannah, a member of the district's public engagement committee, told the board the committee reviewed proposals from Teamworks, CISO and Studer and recommended Teamworks because “their proposal not only helps us refresh our strategic road map, but also talks about how to carry it out.” The committee highlighted deliverables such as district vision cards, building improvement plans and action cards that define who will do what and how progress will be measured.
Superintendent Berg summarized prework and said the district asked three vendors to outline their approaches and costs. Berg said he asked Teamworks to provide a draft strategic roadmap by August, with operational and action-card work continuing into the fall so the district can begin the next school year with tools in place.
Board members discussed the upfront cost — described in the meeting as roughly $31,000 to $32,000 — and compared it with earlier work with the Cambrian group that ran about $25,000 to $26,000. Several members said the price felt heavy given recent budget cuts but that the district lacks in-house capacity after staff retirements and limited communications support, making outside assistance practical for setting up a sustainable system.
Members emphasized that the work should articulate the district’s “desired daily experiences” for students, staff and families and produce measurement cards that roll up to a district vision card for governance oversight. Board members also asked for concrete blackout dates and calendar items so they can participate in co-design meetings and summer sessions.
No formal procurement vote was recorded in the work session; the superintendent asked the board for consensus to proceed with planning and scheduling with Teamworks, and the board agreed to move forward. The district will return with more specific dates and a draft roadmap in coming months.
