Summary
Council read proclamations for Donate Life Month, Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Awareness Month and National Library Week, and received a quarterly report from the Boys & Girls Club outlining programs, attendance and upcoming events.
At its April 14 meeting the Guadalupe City Council presented proclamations and received community updates.
The council proclaimed April as Donate Life Month; transplant recipient Scott Burns described his experience and urged residents to register as organ donors. The council also proclaimed April as Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Anne McCarty, executive director of the North County crisis and child protection center, accepted the proclamation and described prevention programming, partnership needs across law enforcement, schools and social services, and a local case in which prevention education helped a survivor come forward.
The council recognized National Library Week; Dawn Jackson, Santa Maria Public Library director, outlined branch services, the bookmobile schedule and week-long activities, and encouraged residents to explore library resources. Daisy Perez, regional club director for the Boys & Girls Club, gave a quarterly report on activities and attendance at the Ron Estevia clubhouse, noting programs in arts, STEM, sports, and a winter-break program that served 60 children with support from the Guadalupe Union School District. She said total registered across sites was about 141 and that scholarships are available for families with summer fees.
Those items were ceremonial; no formal council action was required. Council members thanked presenters and community partners for their work.
