The Fayetteville Board of Mayor and Aldermen on April 1 voted to accept a Tennessee rescue squad grant totaling $550,500 to buy rescue equipment and protective gear.
Mayor Donna Hartman told the board the grant has already been awarded and requires board acceptance. "The amount of the grant is $550,500. There is no match to this grant," Hartman said. The city will use the funds to purchase two sets of rescue PPE ($4,100), 28 pairs of PPE gloves ($22.40), two AEDs ($4,000), an extrication combo tool ($16,150) and two vehicle-stabilization kits ($24,000), among other approved items listed by staff.
The resolution formalizing acceptance of the grant was moved by Vice Mayor Bradford and seconded by Alderman Keenan and carried on a roll-call vote. Officials said the grant requires no local match and will be spent on specified rescue-related equipment through the fire department; Chief Birdwing was invited to answer any technical questions about the gear.
The board’s action completes the city’s acceptance process so the departments can proceed with procurement and deployment of the equipment. The meeting adjourned after a final invitation for questions about the grant items.
