Officials say property buyouts moving forward; USDA requested technical appraisal reviews

A county official reported progress on ongoing property acquisitions and said appraisals, title opinions and insurance reviews are largely complete for properties targeted for county purchase.
"All the appraisals that came in... I just got word the remaining title opinions and title insurance had came back," the official said, adding that meetings will be scheduled next week to make official offers to property owners and that the county will then submit requests for payment. The official said officials expect to receive funds about seven to 10 days after the request is submitted, allowing disbursement to property owners.
The official cautioned that USDA requested "technical review" of several appraisals—an extra step to confirm comparable sales and valuation assumptions—and that FEMA and the Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) agency were slower to process certain "harder" properties, especially those on hills. The official said three or four technical reviews remained outstanding but anticipated resolution within about a week.
No formal vote was taken on acquisitions at the meeting. Magistrates asked for notice when payment requests are submitted so the county can process a budget amendment if needed.
