Columbia CUSD 4 board approves tax levy, course additions and assessment contract; 25 early graduates certified

The Columbia CUSD 4 Board of Education approved a series of routine and budget-related measures at its regular meeting, including the tentative 2024 tax levy, the certification of 25 early graduates and several curriculum and personnel items.
Board members voted to adopt the tentative tax levy for 2024; administration said the levy reflects no change from last year and will be filed with the Monroe and St. Clair county courthouses. The board also approved a slate of resignations and hires on the consent agenda, including Jamie Bridges (after-prom sponsor) and Laura Simmons (co–cross-country coach) resignations; hires included Stephanie Nelson as a nurse at Eagle View and Addie De Quazy for the Eagle Zone program. Andrea Corey moved to approve the consent agenda and Tyson Search seconded; the motion carried on roll call.
The board certified 25 students for early graduation after administration reported they had met the district’s criteria. A subsequent motion to approve the list carried.
Administration presented the 2024 teacher and administrator salary-and-benefits report and the board approved it following review.
The board approved a three-year purchase of the Horizon Education assessment program for ACT support at a total contract price of $47,992.50; Assistant Superintendent Doctor Gainey said the expense is written into grant funding and will not come from local funds. The board also approved adding production-technology and beginning-electricity course offerings for Columbia High School students to take at Dupo through partnerships with neighboring districts.
The board approved the first reading of board policy 6-2-30 (instruction/library media) and the second reading and approval of press issue 1-17 (housekeeping/legal updates).
Meeting minutes show each motion was moved and seconded and passed by roll call. No votes recorded in the transcript were opposed; Mary Friedrich was noted absent during roll call.
Next procedural steps include filing the levy with county offices and further policy review following the first reading of policy 6-2-30.
