Britney Jumper, the city’s support services director, presented a budget and finance overview to the Satellite Beach Youth Council on Oct. 28, explaining city finances, department responsibilities and where members can find budget documents online.
Jumper said the city’s fiscal year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, auditors would be on site before Thanksgiving and the completed audit typically goes to council in February or March. She described the city’s seven main funds — including the general fund, community service fund, CRA fund, capital assets fund, law enforcement trust fund, health insurance fund and pension trust fund — and explained that the general fund houses most departmental operations.
Jumper told the council the city’s overall budget information is available online and that the general fund is just over $13 million, with about 60% of general fund revenues coming from property taxes. She encouraged members to review the budget book, which contains 10 years of data, and offered to return for a deeper presentation if the council wanted more detail.
Members asked clarifying questions about funds and departmental coverage and staff said they would provide links and copies of the budget materials.
