Commission recommends driveway-width variances for 408 Elmtree Lane to ease family parking
Summary
Homeowner Jason Mick received the Planning & Zoning Commission's recommendation to permit a wider driveway and apron—28.5 feet at the property line (20 permitted) and a 32.5-foot apron at the curb (24 permitted)—subject to avoiding a 5-foot easement and signing a waiver for brick paver aprons.

The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval of variances to allow an expanded driveway at 408 Elmtree Lane to accommodate a household with multiple vehicles.
Homeowner Jason Mick said his family needs room for five cars and described daily difficulties of "bumper to bumper" parking in the existing driveway. Village staff described zoning limits (20-foot width at the property line; 24-foot curb width) and public‑works concerns about a 5‑foot easement. Staff worked with the petitioner and his contractor to produce a revised layout that shifts the driveway away from the easement, which staff said resolved the principal objection.
The commission voted to recommend approval of variances that would permit a driveway 28.5 feet wide at the property line and a 32.5‑foot apron at the curb, conditional on maintaining clearance from the 5‑foot utility easement and submitting a waiver acknowledging the owner's responsibility to repair any right‑of‑way apron impacts. Commissioners noted neighbor contact and said nearby residents expressed support.
Staff will package the recommendation and conditions for the Village Board, which will take final action.
