Cass County supervisors appoint deputy auditor, approve bench and publish farmland bid notice

The Cass County Board of Supervisors met Feb. 17, 2026, in the board room of the Cass County Courthouse in Atlantic and approved several routine and administrative actions, including a personnel appointment and authorizing a farmland bid notice.
By roll call, the board adopted Resolution 2026-06 appointing Hannah Richter as Deputy Auditor at an annual salary of $56,376 ($27.00 per hour). Supervisor Stephen Green moved to adopt the resolution and Supervisor Wendy Richter seconded; the roll call vote was Ayes: Steve Baier, Bernard Pettinger, Stephen Green, Wendy Richter and Mark O’Brien; Nays: none. The appointment was adopted as presented.
The board also approved the consent agenda, moved by Supervisor Bernard Pettinger and seconded by Supervisor Stephen Green, which included minutes from Feb. 3 (regular and budget work session) and Feb. 12 (special meeting), a Class C retail alcohol license renewal for Griswold Golf & Country Club, and claims covering Feb. 1–16, 2026. The auditor was authorized to issue checks for the approved claims; the docket in the minutes shows a grand total of $513,480.72 across funds.
Supervisor Wendy Richter moved and Supervisor Mark O’Brien seconded approval to install a bench on the county’s portion of Atlantic City Park west of the monument; the motion carried with all ayes.
The board approved publication of a Notice to Bidders for the cash rent of county-owned farmland located in the southwest portion of the NW1/4 of Section 15, Grove Township. Bids will be opened at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in the Cass County Courthouse board room. Supervisor Bernard Pettinger moved to approve publication and Supervisor Stephen Green seconded; roll call vote was unanimous in favor.
Other routine items included presentations and reports. Jotham Arber, executive director of Cass/Guthrie County Environmental Health, presented the monthly environmental health report on radon testing and water testing services; Mitch Holmes, Cass County Veteran Affairs executive director, presented the quarterly veteran affairs report for the quarter ending January 2026; and County Engineer Trent Wolken reviewed current road and equipment projects. No formal action was taken on those reports.
The meeting concluded after brief committee reports (Richter on Tourism and Healthy Cass; Green on Landfill and EMS). Supervisor Wendy Richter moved to adjourn, Supervisor Stephen Green seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 9:55 A.M. The board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
