Resident urges transparency on airport PFAS investigation; praises task force and health-district navigator

John Hancock told the Spokane County Board of County Commissioners during open public forum that the airport PFAS investigation will be "a really hard project" requiring transparency and public involvement.
Hancock, who identified his address on Deep Creek, said a recent Ecology-led meeting drew nearly 100 people and that national PFAS advocates were watching the county’s decisions. He urged the commissioners to avoid private meetings dominated by lawyers and to conduct deliberations in public to build trust. "The balance between protecting the airport and protecting the health of your constituents is not an easy balance," he said, calling for a transparent process.
Hancock also noted the health district has hired a navigator funded by the county who began work the day before and who has personal experience with PFAS filters in her home; he said that hire was encouraging and that he would help as requested.
No formal action on the airport investigation was taken at the meeting; Hancock’s comments were part of the open public forum.
