Snohomish County sets April public hearings to update voting precincts

Snohomish County Council members voted unanimously on March 18 to set public hearings for April 8 at 10:30 a.m. on two ordinances that would update voting precinct boundaries and District Court electoral precinct lists.
Jim Martin, council staff, told the council the primary ordinance (26-013) makes the annual changes to voting precincts under state law and county code. "There are 13 changes to precincts to reduce voter counts and 8 precinct changes due to annexations with an increase of total precincts of 6, bringing the total number of precincts to 875," Martin said.
Martin also reviewed Ordinance 26-014, which updates District Court electoral voting precincts and related boundary lists that, he said, had not been updated since 2018. He recommended the council set the time and date for the required public hearings so residents can comment on the proposed boundary changes.
A council member moved to set the April 8 public hearing at 10:30 a.m. for Ordinance 26-013; the motion was seconded and passed 5-0. The council took a separate motion to set the same date and time for Ordinance 26-014; that motion also passed unanimously.
The hearings will be held in the Jackson Boardroom with remote participation available. The council did not take final action on the ordinances at the March 18 session; the ordinances will return after the public hearing and any further deliberation.
