City administrator updates: Dream Playground fundraiser, cameras after vandalism; utilities report progress on well work

City administrator Jarvis told the council about recent outreach, grant work and events: a grant submission for a code enforcer, collaboration with Shelby County partners, attendance at the Iowa League of Cities conference, and a fundraiser for Grandma V’s Dream Playground scheduled for Oct. 18 with free admission, a pizza pot, a band and a silent auction.
Jarvis and other members told the council the city plans to install cameras at the Dream Playground following repeated vandalism; the sheriff’s office indicated a tip/reward program may be available for information leading to an arrest. Council members urged residents to report information to assist enforcement.
Utilities official Joe Hershberger updated the council on infrastructure projects: Burns Electric is removing three underground vaults and repairing sidewalk panels, and Coyote Pumping has been working on developing well No. 35. Hershberger said the work should increase output and that final test pumping and finishing work (piping, electrical controls) are imminent, with a design target around 800 gallons per minute.
Council members thanked staff for the updates and asked administration to share training opportunities for newly elected officials related to the Iowa Open Meetings Act.
