The Bonney Lake City Council voted to authorize an interlocal agreement allowing the city to provide municipal court services to the town of South Prairie.
A city presenter explained the two jurisdictions have had the arrangement since 2006 and recommended a five-year contract with one automatic two-year extension. Under the proposed agreement, South Prairie will remit $225 per month to Bonney Lake for court services; the presenter said South Prairie handled nine cases in the previous year. Filing fees were listed as $75 for criminal citations and $35 for traffic, parking and other non-traffic infractions.
Councilors moved and seconded the motion and approved it by voice vote. The item was considered under full council issues after being moved off the consent agenda for discussion.
Councilors and staff characterized the agreement as routine regional cooperation intended to recover basic costs and ensure judicial services for a low-volume caseload; a municipal-court judge and court administrator reviewed the agreement, the presenter said. The council did not record a roll-call tally in the meeting transcript; the item passed by voice vote.
