City reports promotions and openings as budget discussion begins

During departmental reports, the Chair introduced an HR update. Schneller, the HR representative who presented the item, said a maintenance worker in the water division was promoted effective Jan. 16 and several internal recruitments are underway for accounting specialist and water distribution positions.
Schneller told the council he will add a fuller HR listing to next month’s packet. “We do have a maintenance worker, 2 in water who was promoted… That'll be effective January 16,” Schneller said, and noted that one position will be posted externally after internal applicants are considered.
Council members asked about internal candidates for the accounting posting; staff said the recruitment team is working with HR to collect internal applications and will move to external posting later this week if needed. The police officer vacancy remains posted because of complications during recruitment.
Members emphasized that staffing and recruitment choices should feed into broader budget discussions. The council did not take formal personnel actions at the meeting; Schneller said he will return with updated HR details next month.
