The Bonney Lake City Council on Jan. 6 elected Dan Swatman deputy mayor and approved several representative appointments to regional bodies during a regularly scheduled workshop.
Councilmember Dan Swatman was nominated for deputy mayor and a voice vote followed; the city clerk reported "four for Swatman," and the clerk announced the appointment. "I'd like to thank my fellow council members and all serve everybody the same," Swatman said after his appointment, thanking colleagues for the support.
Council then moved to accept the standing committee assignments with the exception of the Finance Committee, which will be finalized later. The motion to accept committee placements was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
The council also confirmed Councilmember Hubert Fullerton as the city's representative to the Pierce County Regional Council and Councilmember Hubler as the alternate; the same meeting confirmed Councilmember Hubler as the city's representative to the South Sound 911 Board with Councilmember McClymonds as alternate. The clerk noted the regional council meets the third Thursday each month and the 911 board meets the third Wednesday.
City staff said meetings for those boards are primarily virtual (Zoom), and council members discussed the time commitments and value of continued representation. "Gwen has done a great job at giving us excellent reports," one member said in support of continuity on the Pierce County Regional Council.
The council's actions on appointments were taken by voice vote and recorded for the consent agenda for final confirmation at the next regular meeting.
What happens next: The deputy mayor appointment and the representative confirmations will appear on next week's consent agenda for formal ratification; committee chairs and standing assignments will remain in place unless council directs further changes.
