Port Townsend council confirms Amy Powers as mayor

The Port Townsend City Council confirmed Amy Powers as mayor at the start of the meeting after the clerk called for nominations and heard no additional names.

The clerk read Article 1 of the council rules and procedures covering officer elections, called for nominations and said, "Hearing no other nominations, all in favor of appointing mayor powers as mayor signified by saying aye." The clerk then turned the gavel over "to our new mayor Amy Powers," formalizing the appointment.

The vote was conducted by the clerk under the council's rules for the annual officer election; no written ballot was required because only a single nomination remained. Council members offered immediate congratulations and brief remarks recognizing Powers's community service.

During general comment earlier in the meeting, public speakers praised Powers's contributions to community organizations and neighborhood efforts. Council also noted deputy mayor duties remain assigned to Alyssa Rodriguez as the body transitions to the new leadership.
