Summary
City officials and the Anti‑Defamation League honored eight Miami‑Dade schools and the city’s Community of Respect designation, citing a decade‑long partnership and student leadership in anti‑bullying work.
The City Commission presented certificates April 15 recognizing eight Miami‑Dade County public schools for earning the Anti‑Defamation League’s No Place for Hate designation and also noted the city’s Community of Respect recognition.
Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, identified by the mayor as the city’s chief education and performance officer, described the decade‑long partnership with the ADL and highlighted the schools’ commitment to anti‑bullying curricula and student leadership. Amanda Dawes, program director at the ADL, told commissioners the designation is more than a checklist and said the student leaders are the movement’s driving force.
Commissioners thanked school staff, principals and students for the work and noted the city’s scholarship and program support for adult learners and schools. No legislative action followed; the presentation was ceremonial recognition of longstanding local partnership work.
The ADL representative urged continuation of school‑based interventions and city‑school collaboration to address new challenges as they arise.
