Modesto superintendent announces retirement after 33 years

"It’s not easy to say goodbye after 33 years," he said, adding that he intends to stay in the position until a replacement is selected and to focus on ending the year on target.
The announcement came during the recognitions portion of the meeting, where the superintendent also thanked district staff, labor partners and the community for years of collaboration. He said his priorities through the transition will be advancing the district’s strategic goals and maintaining relationships with labor partners, the Modesto Teachers Association and CSEA.
Board President Maestas thanked Dr. Noguchi for his service. Trustees and staff praised his work and said they will use community, labor and staff feedback in the upcoming superintendent search. The board did not take any formal action related to the announcement at the meeting; trustees said further discussion about the search process and timeline will follow in upcoming meetings.
The meeting continued with recognitions and regular agenda items.
