Summary
The board certified April 7 election results naming Sarah Wimberley and Justin Durham to six-year terms, elected officers including Anthony J. Mondain as president, and recognized outgoing members Denise Fierce and Blake Roberson for decades of service.
At its April 14, 2026 meeting, the Independence School District Board of Education certified the April 7 board-election results and moved quickly through organizational business. Administrator S2 reported that Sarah Wimberley and Justin Durham were elected to the ISD board for terms running April 2026 to April 2032; a motion to certify the results was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board then recognized two outgoing members for a combined 40 years of service. Board President S2 introduced Denise Fierce; Fierce (S5) told the board: "It has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life to have had the opportunity to serve on the independent school board for the last 16 years," and listed accomplishments such as bond passages, new school buildings, broadcasting meetings and implementing a four-day school week. Later the board presented a Distinguished Service Award to Blake (introduced as Roberson/Robertson in the packet and remarks); Blake (S8) thanked the board for 24 years of volunteer service.
Following the recognitions, the board conducted officer elections. Anthony J. Mondain was nominated and elected president by voice vote after a motion and second; Wendy Baird was elected vice president; Brandy Puente was elected treasurer following competing nominations and a vote; and Cammy (Kimmy) Smith was approved as secretary. All officer elections were carried by voice vote at the meeting.
The board adjourned the organizational portion and moved on to the evening's business.
