Students press board over denied senior trip and cancelled cyber competition; district pledges follow-up

Simone Lisonbee Metcalfe, a senior and senior-class president at Cheltenham High School, addressed the board during non-agenda public comment to say her class trip request to Six Flags (June 5) was denied as past a district deadline and that she was told the assistant superintendent could grant special permission. Nicholas Sampson, a student at Cedarbrook Middle School, asked whether a cybersecurity competition that had been canceled at the last minute could be reinstated or run again next year. The superintendent, Dr. Scriven, and other administrators told the students they would follow up with administration to provide answers: "I'll follow up with you as well," Dr. Scriven said to Metcalfe; he also said he would seek more information for the cybersecurity question.
